Looking for information on my ancestor John Connelly born c1816 and lived in Abbeyknockmoy

Galway

My ancestor John Connelly is recorded in the 1851 census as living at Brierfield South, Abbeyknockmoy. I'm looking for information on him or his father Thomas (recorded as Thos in the census).

He emigrated to Scotland in the 1850s and was Roman Catholic.

I believe he married for the second time in Scotland so he may have a wife who he married locally.

You say that John emigrated to Scotland in the 1850s and may have married in Ireland. I think he was only born around 1847. He applied for his pension in 1917 and you had to be 70 to qualify. So born around 1847. I also note he wasn’t actually in the 1851 census (the census extract form says: “no return of son John 1851”). So he’s not going to have married in Ireland if he left in the 1850s. Some confusion? Are you sure you have the correct family in Galway. His Scottish marriage certificate should confirm his parents names, occupations and whether they were alive or dead at that date.

I found these records on trees on Ancestry. They aren't always accurate. Is this your John? I assume based on the subject of your message; he was born around 1816.
