Kilkenny family Woodlawn Galway

I should have added that I have been unable to find John's birth record or when he went to New Zealand. I would also like to discover more about his parents.

Any information or hints on where to look would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sue--It looks like your ggf was born in Ballymacward Parish.Ballymacward is close to Woodlawn.

Griffiths Valuation done in !860's-1870's has 3 Kilkenny families recorded as farming in Kinreask,Ballymacward,Galway. One of these was John Kilkenny.Thereare also Dwyer families in the same townland.

Liam Irwin.

Thanks Liam...I will follow it up. I am new to all this.

Hello,my surname is Kilkenny. I live in the United states & currently on ancestry.com where I've found a lot of information about my decsendants migration here from Galway. I just found this site today & plan to post as well because I have only been able to get as far as my 3rd Great Grandparents.

I lost my father in 2009 & my mother October 2014. Going back in time & learning so much more about how I came to be has meant a lot to me & has helped fill the huge void I now feel in my life.

Below is some information I've obtain. You never know, maybe a connection.

Brian Bernard Kilkenny
Birth 1803 Galway,Ireland
Death 12 July 1877 Attymon,Galway

Mary Kilkenny,surname Healy
Birth 1805 Kilmeen,Galway
Death 1879 Iowa, USA
(she moved to the USA to live with my GG grandfather Michael after her husband died)

Children:
Patrick H Kilkenny
Michael Kilkenny
Ellen Kilkenny
Martin Kilkenny
John Regis Kilkenny
Edward Kilkenny

I've just begun to look at their childrens information. If you or anyone recognize the above information where I can connect the dots and travel further back into my lineage. Please contact me.

Kind Regards,
Cj

Hi Sue and CJ

I have passed on the information to a descendant of the Kinreask Kilkeeny family

Hopefully they will be able to make the connection

Would appreciate if you acknowledge this (sometimes messages here get mothballed) and I will pursue it further

Martin

Hi Martin thanks so much. I have reached a bit of a brick wall with this and really appreciate any help.

Hi Sue

I will get in touch with my cousin Sinead Kilkenny and ask her what her father knows

My email is martinjcurley@gmail.com

Martin

thank you!

Dear Sue Wheeler, I read with interst your details about your Great grandfather John Kilkenny.   My maiden name was Kilkenny and was born in Westport South Island New Zealand.   My Father was called John Patrick Kilkenny  born Westport 1917 died Westport 1976. His father my Grandfather was also called John Patrick Kilkenny Born Reefton {not far from Westport } 1888 Died in Westport 1973.

Obviously your Great grandfather and mine are from the same family.

Look forward to hearing from you

Hi Mary

So sorry for such a long time in replying. Yes it looks as though it is the same family. My grandmother, Mary Geneive Kilkenny wa born in Reefton in 1897, and married my grandfather in Westport. My father was born in Blackball and they moved to Australia about 1928-9.

I remember meeting my grandmother's brother Jack when I was s child. He was mayor of Westport at some stage. I have a photo of him with Charles Kingsford Smith.

Could you email me         suewheeler1@bigpond.com

Hoping to share records and information!

Sue

If you are still looking for the Birth information for John Kilkenny I wouls suggest that yo go t the National Library of Ireland and  view the Parish Registers fro Baptims in and around 1859 at this website; https://registers.nli.ie ; and look at the parishes of  Ballymacward and Clonkeenkerrill and look for the Baptism Registers for 2 May 1855 to 15 Feb 1874

Civil Registrations for Catholics did not begin until 1864 so there will not be any Civil Record of his birth   Fred

Thanks Fred!
