Help with Coyne family in Galway

Galway

My second-great grandfather was Anthony Coyne 1834-1876. His father's name was Thomas, according to Anthony's marriage certificate.

I've researched Anthony pretty thoroughly. I've traced his marriage to Bridget Flannigan in West Bromwich, England, and then there immigration to Youngstown, Ohio.

Reently, through DNA matches I located his sister, Mary Coyne. She was born 1833 in County Galway. She married John Lally at the same church as Anthony. Mary and John immigrated to Los Angeles. Mary died in 1888.

What I'm trying to find is a record of where Anthony and Mary came from in Galway. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Likely your Coyne family came from Connemara. Records for parishes in the west of Galway start later than when your Michael and Mary were born. The RC parish of Clifden has records starting in 1838. On the subscription site Roots Ireland, I located an April 26 1838  baptismal record for a John Coin with father Thomas Coin and mother Mary Konnelly (as transcribed by Roots Ireland. The record was in Clifden.RC parish. No townland was mentioned.

I would treat this record as a possible lead on a younger brother to your Anthony.

Mike,

What were the names of the Marriage Witnesses in each case and the maiden name of tAnthony and Mary's mother.

I attach a record of the baptism of Anthony, Junior in 1866. John and Mary Lally were the sponsors. The entries are in part Latin.

I suggest that you get the details of each family member, ie - Age,occupation, and year of marriage, also details of their spouses.

You should Post the information on this Site. It is more likely that the answer to your query will be found in England and Ohio, rather than in

County Galway.

Regards,

McCoy

Thanks so much for your help.

According to the marriage certificate, Anthony Coyne's father's name was Thomas and Bridget Flannigan's father's name was Henry. I don't know the names of their mothers. On the marriage certificate, I could only make out the name of one of the witnesses: Martin Ward. I've researched the Coyne family in Ohio with details from censuses, naturalization records, church records and their obituaries. The missing piece was where Anthony Coyne was from in Ireland. The 1881 English census for his sister, Mary Coyne Lally, says she's from Galway. Just this week I was able to connect Mary Coyne Lally to Anthony Coyne through DNA matches on Ancestry. The baptismal record for Anthony Coyne Jr. with his Godparents as John and Mary (Coyne) Lally makes the connection even stronger. Thanks to all.
