Gilligan / Lawless information - Kiltullagh

Galway

I'm trying to find information about Lawrence Gilligan and Anna (or Ann/Anne) Lawless Gilligan.

They were married in Kiltullagh, Clonfert diocese, Galway on February 9, 1834 and they had at least two children (I'm assuming they had more). Thomas was baptized in 1846 and Catherine in 1848. (Thomas, my great great grandfather, emigrated to Waltham, Massachusetts around 1865 and married Catherine O'Hara).

I'm trying to find out any information about when Lawrence and Anna were born and died, and if either of them are buried somewhere in Galway (and any other info, as well).

Thanks in advance. - Matt Gilligan (Charlotte, North Carolina)

In the Tithe Applotment Books in 1826, there were three Gilligans in Kiltullagh and two Laurence/Larrys in other parishes.

Thanks for the info.

Still trying to find birth and death dates and locations for Lawrence Gilligan and Anne (or Anna/Ann) Lawless.

Let me know if you have any other ideas.

Thank you - Matt

Matt,

The baptism records for the RC parish of Kiltullagh begin in 1844, so you will not find a record of their births. The paid site, Roots Ireland, has the marriage record above, and it also shows the following marriages....the sponsors perhaps tie these three together...as siblings?? - Lawrence, Catherine, and Mary

John Hillary & Mary Gilligan, 24 Feb 1838, RC parish of Kiltullagh, witnesses - Laurence Gilligan & Peter Whyte

Thady Ruane & Catherine Gilligan, 5 Feb 1837, RC parish of Kiltullagh, witnesses - Peter Whyte & Mary Gilligan

Patrick Whyte & Mary Gilligan, 13 Feb 1830, RC parish of Kiltullagh, witness - William Whelan

Michael Conroy & Anastasia Gilligan, 25 Aug 1829, RC parish of Kiltullagh, witnesses - Peter Whyte & Laurence Gilligan

Unknown if the two Mary Gilligans are the same person or two different people, but all the same surnames are interesting.

Civil death records began in 1871, so you will only find a death record if they lived until then.

To add to the 1826 Tithe records mentioned above, there is a Mary Lawless in the parish of Killimordaly (aka Kiltullagh) in the townland of "Gilboola" - Galboley town land.

Carolyn

Thank you Carolyn!

I appreciate your help.

Matt,

From RootsIreland, here are the Gilligans listed in Griffith’s Valuation of Galway, 1855, in either Kiltullagh or Killimordaly parish.

Gilligan  Patrick   Knockatogher     Kiltullagh             Co. Galway

Gilligan Anne     Knockroe            Killimordaly        Co. Galway [possibly Anastasia, wife of Laurence?]

Gilligan  Patrick   Knockatogher     Kiltullagh             Co. Galway

Gilligan  Thomas  Knockroe             Killimordaly         Co. Galway

Gilligan  William  Gloves East        Kiltullagh             Co. Galway

There was one Lawless in Kiltullagh, none in Killimordaly.

Lawless John       Gortakeeran       Kiltullagh             Co. Galway

I'll message that Heritage Society, thank you!

Thank you for the additional information.

I was wondering if that Anne Gilligan was Laurence's wife, too.

Thanks again!
