Murphy family of Loughrea and Galway
Just wondering if anyone knows anything more about my Murphy family, originally from Galway and possibly Loughrea. My great x 4 grandmother, Johanna ( aka Judith) Murphy ( possible maiden name) who married Patrick Murphy ( possibly in Galway about 1810-1817) was born about 1790 in Loughrea. She died Jan 23 1873 in Saint John , New Brunswick, Canada( read her obit). Husband Patrick Murphy , was born about 1777 Galway and died Aug 12 1872 in Saint John, NB. They had at least 4 children: Mary Ann Murphy b 1815 Ire, d.June 12 1902 Saint John,( married Patrick O'Flaherty), William John Murphy ( my line) b. Feb 1822 Saint John, d Dec 22 1873 Saint John ( m.1846 Alice Bowes from Clones, Fermanagh), Thomas Murphy b 1824 Saint John ( m. Elizabeth Moran/Morcan abt 1860), and Ellen L Murphy b. 1832 Saint John, d Jan 21 1900 Boston, Mass, USA ( m. Thomas Murphy abt 1850).
I've checked rootsireland, Ancestryand familysearch for possible birth/baptism records for Patrick and Johanna but foundnothing. I did find some possible baptisms for their daughter Mary Ann's husband Patrick O'Flaherty in Moycullen, Galway. I also found a map that showed that theO'Flaherty/Flaherty clan owned considerable property inConnemara ( west Galway). Since these Irish that immigrated to Saint John were 'clannish', my assumptions are that Patrick and Johanna were both from Loughrea and Patrick O' Flaherty from Moycullen. Hoping someone out there knows a bit more. :) Thanks - Diane in Pennsylvania
