The Broderick's Loughrea
Hi. I am trying to trace back on my Broderick line of the family. My G G Grandfather was Patrick Broderick b.1839 in Galway. He eventually moved to England having signed up for the British Army. His army records indicate that he was born in Loughrea, having initially signed up for the Galway Volunteers in 1857. In 1858 he joined the BritishArmy in the 46th Regiment and was finally transferred to the 107th Regiment of Foot in 1863, where he wasbased at Chichester Barracks in England. He married a Chichester girl in 1878 and died in 1882 (in Chichester). On Patrick's marriage certificate his father is named as Martin (deceased). Martin is registered as being a stone mason. This is where I hit a brick wall. I have tried various on-line avenues to attempt to confirm that his birth place was indeedLoughrea, but without success, and I cannot seem to locate any further info on-line about Martin, or any other members of the Broderick family. My guess is that to probe any further a personal visit to Galway will be necessary. I plan to attempt this some time next year, all being well, but in the meantime if anyone out there has any information they think may be relevant, or any suggestions for further search sites, I would be much obliged. Thanking you all in anticipation. Al.
