O'HARA / CONCANNON
Hello
Looking for O'HARA / CONCANNON family relatives in Ireland and England
I am the last O'Hara by name and living in Manchester, England.
My father was Terance O'Hara born 7th June 1934 born Mancheter England. I have traced back his father as Patrick O'Hara born Widnes on 17/12/1887. (Patrick married Henrietta Birtwhistle from England). My Great Grandad was John O'Hara who came over from Ireland when he was in his twenties, he settled originally in Widnes. He married Catherine Concannon in Widnes on 9/7/1885. The marriage certificate gives the age of John as 28 years old when he was married and Catherine a little younger by approx 5 years. This makes John born around 1856/7. On the marriage certificate it states John's father as Bryan O'Hara and the entry states deceased at the time of marriage. Catherine Concannon's father was called Martin Concannon and he was still alive on the marriage certificate entry.
Census details for a John O'Hara show he worked at Alkali Works, Widnessaged 27 years, he was a boarder, lodging on a street in Widnes. The 1891 Census showsmy Great Grandad John O'Hara's Census married with Catherine O'Hara (Concannon). Both Catherine and John lived on the same street a few doors apart and on John's details it says he was a boarder. The marriage certificate details showJohn worked at Alkali Works, Widnesso believeit may be the same John O'Haraas the lodger entry which must have been done the year before.
The 1891 Census show John and Catherine O'Hara both stating born Ireland (nothing more about the Countyplace of birth). It shows some siblings to include twins of a girl and boy. In 1901 Census it shows John and Catherine O'Hara (Concannon)and shows John born Tyholland Co. Monaghan Ireland. It gives details of Catherine as "Kate" and born Staffs (Staffordshire, England). The age for Catherine is not correct on this census. Further one of the siblings was given as Edmond instead of Edward. It is the same family as the 1891 Census as the other siblings to include the twins are still there. In the 1911 Census all the details are correct except again the place of birth for John states Ireland and Catherine Roscommon.
John and Catherine siblings taken from the 1901 Census were Ellen 15 years, Patrick (my grandad) John and Annie, twins 12 years, Agnes 10 years, Andrew 6 years and Edward 4 years. All say born Widnes on the Census.
I understand that a lot of the Census were listed incorrect. I still don't know where John O'Hara and Bryan O'Hara his father are from.
I have posted on this site recently and been informed that the O'Hara details do not look correct for Tyholland and more of Galway area.
The only living relative I have from the O'Hara side is an elderly aunt. She believed her dad Patrick O'Hara was born Galway and always thought he was born Ireland but this is not the case as it was Widnes. It does seem to fit with the information received off this site.
I was informed also from this site that there is no John/Bryan O'Hara registred in Tyholland/Monaghan area but there is in Galway and was directed to the Griffiths Valuation Site. I have looked at the site and notice a Bryan O'Hara for Galway in the Killimor-Bullogue (Galway) area. The year the entry is made is 1856 this being either the same year or the year before John O'Hara's year of birth.
I am therefore asking if there is anyone who can assist on how I can trace any further details for John and Bryan O'Hara and also any of the Concannon family who I believe is from Roscommon as my elderly aunt had told me this also prior to trying to any research of ancestory I have carried out.
Thank you vey much
Jacqueline O'Hara, Manchester
