Daniel Clarke in Ballygar Killeroran Galway

Looking to connect with anyone who has infomation regarding the background Pettit or Flattery name.  My maternal grandfather is Patrick Pettit of Ballygar, who married Margret Hughes, sister of Nora Keane.  Patrick founded the  store Pettit's in Ballygar.  Have some information regarding his ancestry but seeking further connections. My mother Kathleen married Henry Flattery in 1949; we lived in Galway/Salthill until emigrating to Canada in the fifties.  My dad was originally from Miltown/Dunmore; his father was Peter Flattery. Have some information regarding their backgrooung, but wanting to make further connections

Hi,

Is there anyone local in Ballygar who could help me connect the addresses of Daniel Clarke in the 1855 Griffiths Valuation to the 1901 and 1911 censi and the current addresses? He had a place on Market Square and a few rural properties. We are hoping to find any of his children who remained in Ballygar after 5 children emigrated to New York around 1850. We found one daughter named Mary b 1825 but other church records are illegible. We're hoping to avoid a full property search at Valuation Office in Dublin. Thanks John Clark

I am starting a family history course in Ballygar secondary school on Monday. I will see whether any of the young people there could acces information that would be of help

Do you have an email address that you could forward - it would make it easier to facilitate the search

Hi Martin,

Thats an offer I can't refuse!

My email is rktbrkr@yahoo.com

The primary Daniel Clarke property was in Market Square next to Hood & Steele corn store c1855. I googled Hood & Steele cornstore and never found any mention except in the Griffiths Valuation but I assume the cornstore continued to be used as some sort of commercial property so the former Daniel Clarke home is probably adjacent to a commercial property - maybe the house has been converted to commercial use? I've scanned Market Square using Google earth just out of curiosity.

Thanks so much.

John Clark
