Mary Folan- My Great Grandmother

I am hoping to find details about where my Great-Grandmother and family lived. My family, brother's family and my parents are visiting Ireland this summer and my mother would love to know more about her history.

Mary Folan is my great-grandmother. I know she lived in County Galway until she was 18. At that time her mother passed away during childbirth and Mary traveled to America (Portland, Maine). She married, raised two kids and was very successful.

Her father was Bartley and Mother Bridget (Maiden name Walsh/Welsh).

Could anyone help me find some information? I would love to take my mom to visit the town she grew up in. My mother adored her!

Do you have an approximate year of birth for Mary Folan? The subscription site Roots Ireland shows a family near Spiddal in Co. Galway with parents Bartholomew Folan and Bridget Walsh. There are three children listed: Bridget 1868 Matthew 1871 Martin 1876. They lived in Sheawn. Possibly Mary was born before Spiddal records are available.

Your family would appear to have been from the area of Inveran |(Inverin) which is between the villages of Spiddal and Carraroe.

The local cemetery known as Knock Cemetery is in the area.

Further to previous Post, Bartly Folan is recorded as Kilroe in his marriage certificate.

His father is recorded as John. It would appear that they lived in the townland on Kilroe West.

Bridget Walsh is recorded as Sheaun which would appear to be the townland of Sheeaunroe. A Pat Walsh is recorded in that townland in 1855 - Source: Griffith's Valuations.

Sheeaunroe is North of Spiddal Village.
