It has been quite a while since I was on this website and posted but I wanted to report that I made some progress yesterday.
I made some progress yesterday in that I found Sarah Torpey and her father in the 1821 Irish Census on familsearch.org
I found one of my great great great grandfathers!! His name is Andrew Tarpy (Torpey). He was born in about 1771 in Galway Ireland and he was a linen weaver!
The gravestone where Sarah Torpey Ryan is buried in Old Cathedral in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, has the following written on the stone, This helped me find her marriage record because it gave me her age and narrowed it down to Co Galway!
SACRED TO THE MEMORY
OF MY MOTHER
SARAH RYAN
NATIVE OF CO. GALWAY
IRELAND
DIED JAN 7, 1869
AGED 70 YEARS
Here is her find a grave entry
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/43837265/sarah-ryan
I found Sarah Tarpy listed as a 23 year old in Ireland in the 1821 Irish Census!! She is with her father whose name is Andrew Tarpy.
More details:
John Ryan and Sarah Torpey were married in Cappataggle County Galway Ireland. The name of the townland where John Ryan resided at the time was called Cahernagarry.
Sarah and her father Andrew show up here in the 1821 census:
Cahernagarry is in the Electoral Division of Bullaun, in Civil Parish of Kilreekil, in the Barony of Leitrim, in the County of Galway
So now I want to know when Andrew died and where he is buried and who her mother was and where she is buried. Also I am looking for the other children of John Ryan and Sarah Torpey Ryan.
All hints and help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks
