Patrick Forde Lydon

GalwayGort Kilmacduagh And Kiltartan (Galway)

Good Afternoon...

Looking for any information about my Great Grandfather, Patrick  Forde Lydon, b: July 1843 in Gort, County Galway.

Married Mary A E Turner, Jan 4 1883 in Enniskillen, Fermanagh, N. Ireland.

Died 1917 in London.

Son: Albert Ford Lydon b: Oct 11 1887, married Madeline Margaret Bacon in 1916 in Essex, d: March 18 1957.

I would be very grateful if anyone might be able to offer any further information i.e. parents, siblings, other children, census details or address etc.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Chris,

The Civil Record for this marriage records Patrick as a Corporal in the British Army. Do you have his Army record?

His father is recorded as John Lydon, Labourer.

Parish records for Gort do not go back to 1843, so maybe he was born in another parish in the region of Gort.

Regards,

McCoy

Chris:

I looked at the marriage record and Patrick and Mary were married in a Church of Ireland church. Was Patrick baptized Catholic but agreed to marry in the C of I church because of his wife's religion? The Church of Ireland baptismal records for Kilmacduagh (includes Gort) prior to 1874 were destroyed in the 1922 Public Records Office fire in Dublin.

I also scanned the 1855 Griffiths Valuation records for Co. Galway. I didn't expect to find John Lydon because he was a labourer. However, the surname in Co. Galway was very prominent from Galway city out west to Clifden. So likely your Lydons migrated east at some point before 1843.

Hi McCoy and Roger

Thank you both for these snippets of information...

I have no other information myself and so anything of relevance is so helpful...

I appreciate your time and effort in responding.

ANY ONE ELSE ABLE TO FURNISH FURTHER INFORMATION?

Chris
