Fahy/Flaherty
My great-grandmother Margaret Flaherty was baptised in Claregalway on 23 Apr 1860. Her parents names are listed as John Flaherty and Mary Fahy from
Ballynamany or Ballynomany. I read on another board that name might be a localized name in Claregalway. I did go to a Griffith's value page for Claregalway and
saw that there were several Flahertys listed as well as Fahys.
We will be coming to Galway, Ireland toward the end of April 2023. I would like to know more about the families, as I would love to see where Margaret grew
up and also to see if I can go further back into either families tree. My cousin in England wrote that the Flaherty's moved to Warrington, outside of Liverpool, by 1871.
I don't know that this is my Flaherty. That Flaherty I found did have a Margaret, but she was born in Warrington, one of six children. That is what gives me pause. Also,
Margaret ended up marrying Charles Edward Winstanley of Liverpool and went on to have six children. Charles died in 1900, Margaret was still alive in 1901 census.
Ancestry does not have the 1911 census, so I don't know where she went or when she died.
I would love it if someone could help me find more out about the Flaherty' and Fahys. Also. how do I find if Margaret's family did move to Warrington? That would make
sense as to how Charles and Margaret met. Thank you so much. Amie
