Dunne's of Newtown (Cloocallis) Galway

Cappataggle (Galway)

My great grandparents were Patrick Dunne (abt 1835 - 1910) and Mary Brien of Rushlake (1859-1939). I am trying to find out more about Patrick's family. His marriage certificate of 07/02/1880 lists his father as Martin Dunne of Newtown and occupation herd. Patrick is listed as herd too as he is in the 1901 census. Patrick died  on 04/12/1910 aged 75 according to his headstone at Killaghten Cemetry. I have been unable to locate a birth certificate for Patrick to assist with identifying his mother. I have been unable to locate any Dunne's at Clooncallis in the Griffiths Valuation Records so have hit a brick wall.. I will be in Kilconnell visiting cousins  for a few days on 12 September.

Mariam,

I found these records on RootsIreland (paid subscription. Cappatagle is 32 miles from Newton. Did they always live in Newton?

Thank you everyone for that information. The dates all work. Newtown is between Kilconnell and Woodlawn but in the parish of Cappataggle. Kilconnell church is actually closer.

Does anyone know where Ballambilla and Bolvabala are in relation to Kilconnell?

I am curios that Martin married Honoria Naghten. I have just done a search and found a baptism for an Honor Naugton on 26 July in 1810 with her residence as Balanalgh. Her parents are Thady Naughton and Mary Cinan from what I can make out and the sponsors were ? Naughton and Mary Naughton. I curious as to where Balanalgh is? Martin and Honoria's grandson, Richard Dunne (1891-1966) of Newtown married Ellen Norton (1893-1989) of Cloonymorris. WOuld they be from the same family? Richard and Ellen are my grandparents.
