Melody & McGuinness families of New Inn

I am researching the Melody family and the McGuinenness families of New Inn. My great grandmother Bridget A. Melody b. 1864 left New Inn and settled in Montreal, Quebec. there she had 13 children. Bridget was the daughter of Michael Melody & Dorothy McGuinness.

I am really curious to find out the parent's of Michael Melody and although I know that Dorothy "Dolly"'s parents were Bridget Murray & John Guinnessy/McGuinness I would like to find out more about them.

Bridget Murray was b. abt. 1800 and died in Dec 1871. John I am not sure about.

Michael Melody was born 1806 and died in 1894 in New Inn. I think his father may have been John Melody but I have no proof of that.

Dorothy (McGuinness) is listed on the census as being born in Co. Roscommon which makes me wonder if that is where the McGuinness family was from before settling in New Inn.

I am also curious if there is a local history book done that may cover this area?

Hi Paula,

I have been to those sites and actually am in touch with a Tom McGuinness who still lives in New Inn! He was able to help me a bit with identifying numerous pictures that my great grandmother took on her trip back to visit family in 1926.

I am wondering if there are estate records or some other type records that a person can explore to help determine more as the church records for the area don't seem to go back as far as I need them to.

I appreciate you forwarding my message on and anyone who can help or have ideas with the early McGuinness and Melody family research I would appreciate it!
