Looking for info or family of my Coyne family

Looking for any information on my Coyne family. I believe I've narrowed them down to Parish of Ballynakill and renting land with a house in townland of Ross and renting empty land I assume for farming in townland of Tievegarriff

My 2nd great grandfather was Tadgh (or possibly Tadg but called "Tady" in US) Coyne, born about 1834 in Galway. He married Catherine Lydon about 1857 and had my great grandfather, john Coyne in 1858 and a daughter Bridget in 1860. They came to the US in March 1862 and settled in Marcellus, New York.

Catherine Lydon had a sister, Jane, who married Thomas Thornton in 1869 in Ballinakill Chapel in Renvyle. Jane and Catherine's parents were Patrick and Bridget (Coyne) Lydon, They came to Marcellus with Jane and Thomas in 1870 and also settled in Marcellus. I believe a brother, Michael Lyden, was witness to Jane and Thomas' wedding as I found the record in Ballinakill Parish records recently on line. Other Lydon children also came to Marcellus including Patrick Lydon Jr who married a Mary Coyne in Marcellus. The family used the spelling "Lydon" in Marcellus but most I've found in Ireland used Lyden. As per another siblings Mary Lydon's obit in 1918 there were still two brothers, Michael and John living in Ireland. and in Jane Lydon Thornton's obit in 1929, Brother, John, was still living in Ireland so there may still be living descendants of this family.

According to his death cert, Tady's parents were John Coyne and Ellen "Nellie" Walsh (or Welsh, hard to read). There were two other brothers who came to Marcellus before Tady named Patrick (who married Mary Coyne in Galway) and Rodger (who married Ann Gannon, sister to the Philip Gannon mentioned next, also while still in Ireland) and also a sister, Sarah Coyne who married Phillip Gannon in Ballynakill and had two children before Patrick went first to Marcellus, NY and Sarah followed with children a year later in 1857

I'm planing on visiting the area soon and just wondered if anyone had any info on this group of families.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

If you manage to get to Dublin during your trip you could go to the Valuation Office on Abbey Street to review the Revision/Cancelled Books. These will give an indication who stayed on the land after the Griffith's Valuation in the 1850s up to the 1970s or 1980s. While they are not seen as a record of who owned the land they do indicate who paid the rate of it and only whose who had an interest (ie owned it) would be liable to pay. The staff in the Valuation Office are very nice but as you have the townand info all you need to ask them for is the townland books for that parish and county. You can learn more here

Usually those who didn't emigrate stayed on the same plot so there is a good chance that the family name remains to this day. You can also have a look at the 1901/1911 Census to see who is listed for the family
