Connaughton, Connaghty, Dirrunn and Cregg families

GalwayBallinasloe (Galway)

Any recognition of the following information would be greatly appreciated. Our great grandfather Thomas Connaughton, (b. 1833) to the best of our knowledge, came from Ballinasloe. He, with his father Thomas, Mother Bridget (Dirrunn), Brothers Michael and John went from Ireland to Cheshire where they appeared in 1851 census with Owen Cregg, Catherine Connaghty and their son Thomas Cregg (born in Cheshire). Young son Thomas Cregg was then with my family here in the U.S. in 1860 census.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC records for Ballinasloe start in 1820 and are included on Roots Ireland. However, I was unable to find a baptismal record for Thomas. I also searched for children of Thomas Connaughton and got no record. Here is the link to the parish register for Ballinasloe http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0324   You may want to check the register for your ancestors but likely they attended a different RC parish.

Becky:

You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing. You may match someone on either your paternal or maternal lines that has more details on your family. People in Ireland are just getting into DNA testing so you will likely match people in the USA or Canada.
