Clonbrock Estates

GalwayAhascragh (Galway)

While there is another thread relating to Clonbrock Estates, my question doesn't exactly relate. My great-great grandfather (Samuel Ellis-abt1810-1889)was a forester on Clonbrock Estates in the 1830s. I was wondering if there are records of workers on the Estate to reference. I was hoping there may be records of the Dillon family that showed who worked for them, and possibly pay information, etc. I've been searching but have yet to find anything like that.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching out

You can search the NLI sources database (National Library of Ireland) to see the list of archival documents and photos in the Library's collections. This will give you a good overview of what is available:

Thank you. I assume that the only way to view any of the information is to actually visit the libary.

I'm afraid that is the case for a lot of them but some of the Lawrence Collection images can be viewed online:

This is a nice article on the background to the House:

Thank you. If I ever get to Ireland I'll need to spend some time at the National Library.
