Looking for help to find great great grandparents

Fermanagh

Hi,

I have just joined the forum and i am hoping that someone will be able to help me trace my great great grandparents Jane Montgomery and Robert Thomson

they were married on the 24th Nov 1865 in Irvinestown Fermaghan

and at some point moved to Paisley Scotland

i have them in the 1881 census scotland , Jane at that time was 38 and Robert 33

so jane would have been born around 1843 and married at 22

Robert was born in England around 1848 not sure how he came to be in ireland or at what age he moved there.

Jane's father i think was George Montgomery and her mother was Margaret Fleming.

thats pretty much all i have hope someone can help.

William:

I looked at the 1862 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Fermanagh. Assuming Jane's father George was still alive, he may be one of the four listed below. Based on the location of Irvinestown, only the last record is likely (Gorteen in Magheraculmoney). You mention the date of marriage but I can't tell if you have the civil marriage record which would show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom were living in 1865. The index record is below the Griffiths data. If you don't have the civil record and want a copy, let  me know and I can provide instructions.

William:

As I mentioned above the civil marriage records only show the names of the fathers so that would give you 1/2 of what you need. Below are instructions for ordering a copy of the marriage record from the GRO.

Roger

Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.
