Creighton/Cassidy Lisbellaw - Happy New Year!

Fermanagh

My great grandparents, John Creighton and Martha Haire, son John Creighton born June 14, 1856 in Lisbellaw, married Ellen Ann Cassidy, born 1849, daughter of William Henry Cassidy. Emigrated to US and married in New Haven, CT in 1874.

Any info or advice is much appreciated.

Thanks and Happy New Year,

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your message. Hope you are having a good start to the new year!

With regards to John and Martha..

Lisbellaw is a village in the civil parish of Cleenish and Island:

Catholic records for the parish of Cleenish start in 1835, so John and Martha were originally from the parish you may be able to find their baptism record if they were born after this or perhaps more likely, their marriage cert if married there. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. You may find the Irish Times website useful as they give an overview of what records are available and also where copies are available:

Have you heard of Griffith?s Valuation? This is a property valuation survey carried out in IReland 1848-64. I couldn't find a record of John in CLeenish however their is a John Creighton recorded in the nearby parish of Kinawley

Here are the William Cassidy?s recorded in the survey:

There is a Henry Cassidy recorded in Cleenish parish:
