O'Callaghan

My Gr Grandfather Patrick O'Callaghan sailed fromPlymouth on 1st December1853and landed in Adelaide, South Australia on 19th March 1854. His wife Mary Hartigan sailed from Plymouth two months earlier than Patrick under her maiden name. It is not known where they were married. Family BDM recordsin Australia indicate they were from County Clare.

Patrick was sponsored under the UK Assisted Passengers Scheme by Patrick Fennell in Adelaide who had married Mary O'Callaghan in Adelaide in 1847 having arrived in Adelaide 1846.

A John O'Callaghan was also a passenger on Patrick's ship sponsored by Patrick Fennell who was the son of Stephen Fennell who arrived in Adelaide in 1838.

Although there has been no success in tracing Patrick O'Callaghan's family in Ireland the Clare Library Family Research Centre has identifieda record in County Clare ofMary Hartigan.
