Hello Jerry,

If you are related to the Wilson's mentioned above, could i suggest you get a FTDNA Y111 test.

Your dna result will probably give us the correct Newberry ancestor of a few people.

I am part of an international DNA research group on Wilson's, We have a unique DNA, centred around Fermanagh and Tyrone origin. The history goes back to 850. My family came from Derrykeeghan, and surrounds near Enniskillen. There is only 23 of us out of many thousands of Wilson's tested.

We are looking for more Wilson's from the area  to be tested as we have some evidence that takes us back to 1625 there.

especially looking for Wilson's that came from Lisbellaw and Topped Mountain.

Most Wilson's are R Haplogroup, This group is I- and then a particular subgroup.

Have much to share if your results are as the group would expect.

Not sure if it's relevant or if there's a connection too but my mum cousin is Newberry Wilson from Fintona - maybe a family connection as it's not a common name.

Hello Amanda

It is believed he is related to Newbury WIlson of Derryhillagh. Missed finding your Newberry of last time in Ireland.

He was contacted by Rick Wilson  abnd i think Margaret Barnes from our DNA group a few yeasr ago

The first Newberry, (Newbury) is recordfed in teh St Macartins cathedral records in the 1700's. The locals believe they are all of te one family. Thomas Wolson father may have been William Wilson.

The Blakely family aree another link.

There is other ibfo i can share but it wouild be best if you contact me on colinwilson,aust@gmail.com

Colin,

Sorry for the delay. It's been along time since I checked this message board.

Yes, the geni web link you listed above is my great great grandfather.  (I even know where Buck Creek, Iowa, USA is located)

His grave is part of the cemetary associated with the Buck Creek United Methodist church and was yards from my elementary(primary, ages 5 -11) school. That school has since been shut down for a lack of students.

From what I have gathered, he immigrated between 1865 & 1870. The 1870 US Census has hime listed in Iowa and lists the birth place of his youngest child William as born in Ireland in 1865. Most if not all of his siblings were already in Iowa. This follows the typical pattern of sending the young sinlge siblings to scour out a placee and get it set up before the families came over.

I have had an autosomal DNA test kit done but never a Y111.

Colin,

Where can I see information from the research group?

Jerry Wilson

Hello Jerry

Have not looked at the message board for some time, i saw the amount of typo's i made back then, i was recovering from a broken back and the drugs certainly had an affect on me back then.

Since your last reply we have done more YDNA tests on Wilson's from Fermanagh, we now know which family is which in most cases and when the Ydna mutations occurred.

If you do the Ydna700 test on FTDNA you will find our group, then i can give you accurate information on your family

regards

Colin
