William was in Irish Constabulary. His paster recomended him for the police. t5his was the early 1800's

His son William married Evelyn Maud Judge they went to Scotland where William joind the Scottish police at Strathclyde in 1900.

You might try the following sites. www.irishgenealogy.ie (free site) and www.rootsireland.ie (pay per view). there are a lot of William Shaws on the forst site, so one of those may be yours.
