Murphy Family

DublinSt Nicholas Without (Dublin)

Trying to locate Patrick Murphy, born about 1770-1780.He is the father of Michael Murphy, my 3rd great-grandfather, baptized at Saint Nicholas December 6, 1802.The record shows Patrick Murphy,father, and Mar,mother.It could be Mary, Maria, Margaretta. They also have children, Anna, Teresa,baptized at Saint Nicholas in 1806 and 1809.Again, no mother's maiden name listed.My 2nd great-grandfather, Michael Murphy,married Elizabeth Jennett at Saint Nicholas, August 15, 1826. Their son, Michael Murphy,my great-grandfather emigrated to the U.S. in 1867 and settled in Newark, New Jersey.
Any leads, help, or suggestions with regard to Patrick Murphy, Mar, Maria, Margaretta, and Elizabeth Jennett are greatly appreciated.

www.irishgenealogy.ie ; Church Records TAB has the St. Nicholas records and there are seven Patrick Murphy baptismal records from 1770-1780. No way to determine which one may be your ancestor.   Here is a link to the parish register

I also searched for a Patrick Murphy marriage to someone with the name Mar-- for the years 1795-1802 and got no record.

  Thank you very much for getting back to me and sending the links. I did follow-up with the listings for Patrick Murphy in the Saint Nicholas records. I found a baptismal record for Patrick Murphy on February 27, 1769, parents, Lucae (Lucas/Luke) Murphy and Judith Deviln. My 4th great-grandfather, Michael Murphy, born 1802, baptized at Saint Nicholas, and married to Elizabeth Jennett at St.Nicholas on August 15, 1826, had a son named Luke. Not hard proof, but having done family history for quite awhile, I find it is often the case that children, especially Irish children, are named after parents or grandparents. The added fact that the Murphy family belonged to Saint Nicholas Parish, as did Lucas Murphy and Judith Devlin, is also part of the reason to be somewhat convinced.

  Your suggestions are always a great help and I do feel I am at least in the neighborhood.It took me twenty-five years to find my Murphy ancestors in Dublin, so the "hunt" for more of them continues.

Hi Greg!

Having Murphy ancestors is always a challenge. My wife's grandmother was a Murphy and I'm really struggling to find where they came from in Ireland. Working all the DNA leads I get but still not there.

Attached is a spreadsheet view of the baptismal records of the children of Patrick Murphy and Mariae ?. Notice that Teresa's baptism is 1813, not 1809. Also included are 2 additional baptisms with the same Father/Mother names. The baptism dates of these children seem to be too close to the other children, so they are probably not the same parents.

I see you have made progress in finding your 4th Grt Gandparent, Patrick Murphy. For what its worth, the second attachment lists the baptisms of Patrick Murphys in the years 1869-1880 in the 6 parishes in Dublin with the largest number of baptisms.
