Charles and William Cosgrave
I'm looking for more information on my cosgrave ancestors from Dublin.
My Great-grandfather Valentine Cosgrave (born 1892) to Charles Cosgrave (born 1830)and EllenO'Neill (Born 1851).
He married Roseanna Cosgrave (Born 1900), daughter of James Cosgrave (born 1866) and Mary Taafe (Born 1868).
The family story is that Valentine and Roseanna needed a Papal Dispensation to get married becasue they were second cousins. My theory is that Valentine's father, Charles (born 1830) and Roseanna's grandfather William Cosgrave(Born 1836) were brothers.
I've hit a wall in my online research and was hoping to get some guidance here. I have no clue how to research papal dispensations (if that's even possible), and I have never had contact with any of my Cosgrave family in Ireland... I wouldn't even know who they are, as my grandfather was an only child and died before i was born. I only have secondhand stories from my dad, and no family mementos.
Here is the info I have on the two (suspected) brothers.
Charles, born 1830 in Dublin, died in May1901 in Dublin, and was a dairy farmer.
William Cosgrave was born in 1836 and died Dublin in 1888. He married Jane Clarke in 1861 in Dublin. They had a son, James, in 1866, who was a carpenter.
Thanks!I'm planning to come to Ireland in 2016 to visit, and would love to know more about my family so I can visit places they may have lived, or meet distant cousins!
