McCann Family

Dublin

I am trying to research my brother in law's ancestors. Based on famiy history, his 3rd great grandparents were William McCann and Margaret Verdon. I have found baptisms in the catholic parish registers for several children in St Nicholas without in 1840, 1842, 1845 and 1847. They appear to have left Ireland for NYC in late 1847 and then returned to Dublin in late 1850s and I have found a child baptized in St Michans in 1860. Family history has William as a shoemaker, although in NYC he is listed as a blacksmith. Also family history/lore has the McCann family orginially from Armagh (?) and Verdon family from Liverpool. I am still trying to find a marriage record for William and Margaret. Are there any records I could search to verify William's occupation or where they might have lived?

Thank you

Joanne,

The free site irishgenealogy.ie has these three baptism records...a little off from your dates.

John McCann, 20 Jun 1841

Peter McCann 12 Jun 1843

James McCann 2 Mar 1860 (they lived at 20 Charles St. according to the record)

None of the baptism records show William's occupation.

Civil death registration began in 1871, but I could not locate either William's or Margaret's records, so they probably died before then.

Thank you so much, Carolyn. I realized after Mary sent her response about finding the marriage record for William and Margaret that I had the dates off by a year. That's what I get from going on memory instead of checking my notes and records!

Again thank you so much,

Joanne
