help please tracing Patrick Joseph O'connell

Dublin

I beleive that my Dad was born in Kerry about 1910. I know his father, with the same name, was a Lance Serjeant in the Irish Guards, I have found information that a Patrick Joseph Oconnell enlisted with the Irish Guards whilst living in Birr, Kings County. I also beleive he was KIA in Flanders 1/11/1914.  I think my grandmother was called Mary and my Great grand father was called David O'ConnellCan anyone give me further information on my father hopefully birth or death date and place.

Hi Sonia,

Can you get access to ancestry.com? Your local family history centre or library may have it.

I searched Miltiary on ancestry & there is a record of a 1915 British Army WW1 pension in the name of Patrick Joseph O'Connell who was born in Castleisland parish near Trallee co Kerry 1st March 1896

I'm not sure how well it will copy but can send it to an email address if you like.

So you dad must have been born later than 1910 as Pat senior would only have been 14 in 1910

The site I use to find birth, death & marriage records, www.rootsireland.ie/ doesn't have Kerry records so i couldn't help with those.

You might want to check out the parishes in Kerry which have contacts on this site to see if anyone knows the family

Hi Col,

Thank you for your reply. I beleive my Grandfather Patrick Joseph O'connell was born in 1882 and was KIA 1/11/14 in Flanders. He was a Lance serjeant in the Irish Guards 1st Battalion.

My father also Patrick Joseph O'connell ( confusing huh?!) was born around 1910-1911.

Many thanks

Sonia

Hi Sonia

I've started a family tree on ancestry that has your Dad Patrick on it. Along with his parents Patrick and Mary.

Let me know if you want to talk.

Thanks
