Cath and William McDonald

Dublin

Morning All.

I am looking for any information that you have on the people below. They are part of my family tree I believe. They came to light with information supplied by yourselves in a previous request (McDonald in Dublin). I cannot find any reference to either of them in any genealogy web sites. The records that I have show a gap between the children and these would fill the gaps.

The children are Richard born 1817 then Cathn 1819, James 1821, Jane 1824 William Henry 1825 and then Elizabeth 1830. There are more children in the family which I have not listed. The parents are Ann and John.

Also can you explain at the christening can you explain the process of gifting noted on the christening registration.

Cathn 1819, https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/church/d-116-1-3-012.pdf

If I can provide any more relevant information in your search.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

William Henry and Catherine were both baptised at St. Audoen's Church of Ireland Dublin city - most of the surviving Church of Ireland records for the city are on the free IrishGenealogy website as transcripts, or sometimes also as register images as for these two.

Church of Ireland registers are not currently well represented online (unlike Catholic records) at present and other than IrishGenealogy website unlikely to be found online on any other sites, other than some transcripts for other areas on pay-website (RootsIreland), added to this many of the original Church of Ireland registers were lost during the events of the Battle of Dublin (Irish Civil War).

The Church of Ireland minister filled in the baptism register during or straight after the baptism, and the registers would have been kept at the church/parish at this time. Later (1860s/70s) many Church of Ireland registers were supposed to be sent to the Public Records Office in Dublin city for safekeeping..

In the cases of both William Henry and Catherine their baptisms seem to have taken place within a couple of weeks of their births, which was not always the case for Church of Ireland family - some could be many months or even years after the birth.

A quick check of the St. Audoen's records on IrishGenealogy showed two additional likely children to your John and Anne/Anna :

James - 15th April 1821 : https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/view/?record_id=1d928783dd-33064

and a possible - Jane - born 1824, bapt. 27 March 1825 : https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/view/?record_id=1d928783dd-33161
