Farrell and Corcoran families

Hi Jackie,, on the marriages there is also a Michael Corcoran being married on the 6th. August  1854 same church, to a Margaret Courtney, she seems to hail from Shanganah.  On the baptisms a Catherine baptised on 5th. of October 1823 to a John and Catherine Farrell   Sponsors Thomas Cooke and Mary Warren  parents from Cabinteely.  I see some of her siblings there, spread out over a number of years all to John and Catherine.  I didn't go into the details as I thought you should have the chance to get them yourself. There is an Index which makes it easy, but if you have difficulty come back.  Its Kingstown Parish which today is Dun  Laoghaire.   As to John Corcoran he has'nt jumped out as yet but they sound like some of my own ancestors which come from the same area and they seemed to go between Booterstown ,  Sandyford and  Kingstown

Best for now Myles

Hi again ,Just came across the Death of a Catherine Corcoran in in 1882 on the 22nd of August age 58 which matches her age and she is the Wife of John Corcoran a Farmer of Kill of the Grange. The witness was a Mary Corcoran same address.  Thats in the Irish Geenealogy Civil records.  As John is allive in 1882, you should find his Death whic will give his age or approx.  Also chances are she is buried in Deans Grange and you can see who is buried in the same grave.

Best for now Myles

Hello Myles and Shane and THANK YOU both for your information. Some of it I knew and some was new, so thank you for your time and energy. I know you are both volunteers, but you are clearly both excellent at trackign down clues! I have managed to add some extra info thank you to you both :)

Jackie

Hi again, is it rootsireland.ie that  you found all the info? That is a paid service which I am not on. I am on ANcestry but have not found anything in Kingstown Parish. I see there is microfiche, but is there a less tedious way of searching? Thank you!

Jackie

Hi Jackie,  It really is ,"different strokes for different folks".   The only thing I ever paid for is for searching in the public records offices and for getting copies of certs. and thats almost 50 years ago now.  Shanew is a volunteer in Ireland XO and I have no idea if they have access to these sites or not.  I do know that they help people find their Ancestors and thats what I do too, or try to.  I do enjoy the searching and yes it can be very boring by times.  Most of the information I gave you, I found in the NLI Catholic Parish registers which is on line and free. I had to get permission from the Bishop to look at these many years ago in the National Library, on microfilm, now thats boring. (the microfilm )  If you have Ancestry then I believe they use these files to give you the info, and I suppose if you dont like searching its a good idea. How you ask and what you ask for is key. Shanew gave you a connection into that site. Im not good at "copy and print etc" Ive asked one of my daughters to show me. They all do it so easily today. Back to your people.   John Corcoran died on 18-4-1889 aged 80 which means born 1809 and is buried in Deansgrange in plot  North/F1/68 and age given is 80.  Alas, Catherine D1882 is not there. This often happens. There are 5 in the grave  all Corcorans, but I didnt check them out. next burial was in 1902.  That site is "Everafter".  The only likely contender to being Johns Parents is a Peter and Cathy Pender,I found most of the children but John is still missing,  Could be the wrong parents , but John is still missing, Hes so like my Andrew, and the same year. Ill get back when I find something.  Best Myles

Hi Jackie,       Could I ask you where you got the ages of John and Catherine, as i like to cross check if I can   Best Myles

Hi Jackie, just thinking, I dont think Ancestory has the church records for Dublin Rathdown so that may be the reason you didnt get anything from that source   Best        I must have clicked that twice above , so good he said it twice ?

thank you Searcher friend. Twice is even better than nothing :)

Wills web site indicate that John died and left his possessions to his son Michael and John Farrell so that means Catherine was already dead. See http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014903/005014…

I got the age of Catherine Farrell from Myles another volunteer who wrote:
"Hi again ,Just came across the Death of a Catherine Corcoran in in 1882 on the 22nd of August age 58 which matches her age and she is the Wife of John Corcoran a Farmer of Kill of the Grange. The witness was a Mary Corcoran same address." This complettely makes sense so am satisfied this data is correct. I can not see quickly how I got the dob bu it must have been a baptismal record .

With regards to the others in the Deansgrange grave:
Anastasia was the wife of John and Catherine Farrell's child Michael - Anastacia Corcoran =9 Jan 1954 and  Michael Corcoran = 21 Feb 1929

John Corcoran the JOhn married to Catherine Farrell (18 Apr 1889)

John Corcoran - 8 Apr 1902 (not sure who this is)

John Corcoran - 21 Mar 1913 (not sure who this is)

I am just looking at other Corocoran names in this graveyard and there is a Sydney and Julia Corcoran - both unusual enough names! Not known to me though.

Anyway, thank you again for your time.

Jackie

Hi Jackie,   That 1902 burial is the two year old son of Anastasia and John,  Can i ask you Jackie if you have access to Irish Genealogy  and  also Family search.org  free sites as I can see that you can handle a computer and copy and paste with ease, my mind doesnt work that way  Myles

I do indeed. To be honest the Irish genealogy is not one I have used, but now that I am aware of it I shall start inputting some questions and see what it comes back to me with!

Family search . org is one I sometimes use, but tend to stick witih myheritage and ancestry mostly, combined with the Wills database and the graveyards search!

I shall give the irishgenealogy.ie a go now :) Thanks, Jackie

Hi Jackie, To get the best out of it , can I suggest that you just put in Corcoran with no christian name , then if you sort by year in the top,    and then click Rathdown which is the area you want. The marriages that are pre 1864 are  mostly C of I but worth a look . Most of the Marriages you want are in these years 1864 on.   There is no point in your search looking in Irish Genealogy Church records , as they do not cover any of the Churches from Ringsend to Kingstown you need to go into the NLI site or use the link Shanew gave you, to look at the churches you want for this search.  and its slow work. A correction there, the church records do cover Sandyford, Donnybrook and Haddington Road " St Marys"   If you do go into NLI it offers you a "Search the Map" which will show you all the Counties to choose from ,, I sound like a school teacher, but if you dont  already know it will save you time , and if you know already, just ignore it.   I have found most of John and Catherines children which might help you in the Marriages. Thomas  11-5-1847, John 12-12-1848 Catherine 12-12-1848  Michael 11-1-1852  Joseph 3-5-1854  Catherine    6-11-1864  thats Day month year there is a gap there between  1854 1nd 64  which I havent finished. and yes two Catherines the first must have died.   They were all baptised at st Michaels except Catherine who was Baptised at the newly opend Cabinteely church.   Catherines Parents were John Farrell and Catherine Flinn and were Married on 20-12-1815 at St Michaels Kingstown  they were from Cabinteely.     Best for now Myles

Myles, you are so good for spening time pointing me in the right direction. I genuinely appreciate all the help you have (all) given me and I am able to add to my tree thanks to these findings!

Jackie

Jackie.  Enjoy .   Best Myles
