Hi,

Thanks for your message.

I did a search for the surname on the irishtimes website. The only variants that yielded any results were McBlain/MacBlain. You can see the results here:

http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm?fuseaction=Go.&UserID=

As you can see from this, there are only 4 households in Down recorded with this name for the mid-19th century.

I also ran the name John McBlain on the Griffith's Valuation database. This is a land survey that was carried out in Ireland between 1848 and 1864. One result came back for a John McBlain in Down for 1863. The name of the civil parish this John lived in is Donaghdee. You can see these results at the following link:

http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&Submit.x=38&Submit.y=14&Submit=Submit&familyname=mcblain&firstname=john&baronyname=&countyname=DOWN&unionname=&parishname=

I hope that this is the John McBlain that you are looking for and that it helps you in your research!

Kind regards,
