Aiden-
Can you provide any more info on William and Mary? Did they stay around Drumgooland? Did they have children? Where and when? Where did Mary die? There was a Mary Kennedy who married a Patrick Bannon in 1883. Her father's name was James.

Aidan,
As I mentioned in my first message can you provide any additional info about William and Mary. I was unable to find William on Ancestry and RootsIreland. Do you know where he came from? Are you sure the Mary Kennedy he married was from Drumgooland?
There was a Patrick Bannon born in 1862 in Ballymaginaghy, Drumgooland, Down to John Bannon and Bridget O'Hare (married in 1861). I found 5 siblings- Hugh 1869, Mary 1870, Rose 1873, James 1879, Daniel 1881 and no William.
Regards- Mary
Mary Hi. William came from as far as I know and was told, Dree hill Finnis County Down Drumgooland. Him and Mary Kennedy had My Grandfather Patrick Bannon, There was Tommy, Danny, A sister Bridget, another sister Mary Ellen. I also think there was another girl that died when she was young. Where and how can I get these archives Mary. Thank you.
Aiden,
I checked again and still couldn't find records on William. Did you notice the names you listed with the exception of Daniel are those identified by Eileen, father- Patrick. Have you checked out the 1901 Census?
Sometimes it helps to work back. Tell me about your grandfather Patrick- date of birth, did he stay in Down? if not where did he go and when? Did he get married, to whom? When/ where? Where were their children born? When? When and where did Patrick die?
Also do you know where Mary Kennedy Bannon died?
Regards- Mary
Aidan,
Maybe you would let us know how you found the name William for your ancestor? Did one of his children enter it on their marriage record? Or did someone's death record give their father's name as William? I'm asking because information on death records is not always reliable. The person providing the information might have been confused, grieving, misinformed. I have seen this scenario many times. In my own family, a father called William on a child's death record was actually named Daniel. I've seen death records where a stepparent was named as the parent. Etc. So, is it possible your ancestor was Patrick, not William?
The 1901 census provided above shows the Bannon family with children with the names you know--Thomas, Bridget, Mary Ellen, Patrick. Parents are Patrick and Mary. It seems that this is likely the family you are searching for.
How about trying this. My Grandfather Patrick Bannon Born May 29-1915, Died September 4 1992 Married Mary Madine Born August 25-1915 and Died January 8 -1999. This is William Bannon and Mary Kennedys Son. Thanks. Aidan.
Aidan,
The only record I could find anywhere was the birth of Mary Madine on the date you stated..father was Hugh and mother was Theresa Duffy. Did Patrick and Mary get married in Ireland? I found no marriage record for them nor for Patrick's parents William and Mary Kennedy. Where are you getting her surname Kennedy from? Just a thought as this happened in my family..if it is from her death record in 1960, the person reporting it could have been wrong, and did not know her surname. She lived an awful long time, so those who survived her might not have had the correct information.
To add a thought to the other volunteer's suggestions who replied about the Patrick Bannon with a father also Patrick...that Patrick Joseph in the 1901 census would have been born in 1890, and if Mary Kennedy was born in 1861, as you stated, I doubt they were married! :)
Regards,
Hi Carolyn. I don’t know the year Mary Madine & Patrick Bannon were married, But it was in the Immaculate Conception Church Leitrim County Down.
Aidan,
Still no luck finding their civil marriage record...could be they did not register their marriage civilly which would be an odd circumstance for the time. Have you contacted the church yet to see if they have records? Given that none of the IRO volunteers could help you with records, could be that others in the family did not complete civil registrations..just my guess.
You didn't comment on my suggestion his mother's name was not Kennedy....do you have some proof of that?
Regards,
I can’t find the proof that my Grandfathers mother was Kennedy.
Did Mary Kennedy Bannon die in Ireland or elsewhere? I could not find any civil death record for her in Ireland, and the civil records go to 1973.
Mary Kennedy died in Leitrim County Down.
