Moira Parish, County Down

Down

I have located a British Army Attestation record for a soldier who enlisted in Belfast in 1874. His birthplace is recorded as the Parish of Moira in the County of Down, near the Town of ..... (the writing is difficult to decipher). I've attached a screenshot of that part of the record and am hoping that someone with knowledge of the area will be able to identify the name of the town. Thank you.

I believe that town also reads Moira - it's part of the Civil Parish of the same name along with about 20 townlands.

See the entry for the parish and town in Samuel Lewis' Topographical Dictionary of Ireland 1837 - Moira

For civil birth/marriage & death records the relevant registration district was Lurgan, with sub-districts (dispensary districts) Aghalee, Portadown,Tartaraghan, Moira and Waringstown.

For a guide to church records in the area see page 312 of the PRONI Guide to Church records

Ah yes, I can see it now, I guess I was expecting a different name in the Parish of Moira without thinking it might be the same.

Thank you Shane, much appreciated.
