Looking for birth details of my great grand father and mother, Patrick Trainor and Teresa Shannon

Down

i am wanting to track down the birth details of both my great grandparents - Patrick Trainor and Teresa Shannon. According to Patrick & Teresa's marriage certificate (they were married in 1864 in Victoria, Australia) Patrick was was 36 years old and Teresa was 21 years old. His name is Trenor on the marriage certificate but has changed to Trainor on all other official documents.

This certificate's details would Patrick's birth around 1828 and Teresa's at 1843. However Patrick's age changes with each milestone. On the birth certificate of their first child he claims his age as 32 years, putting his birth date at around 1838. His death certificate claims a different date once again. On each certificate it is stated that he was born in County Down, Northern Ireland and on his 1st child's birth certificate it is refined to Ballygarvan, County Down. Teresa's birth place is listed as County Wicklow on the marriage Certificate and on the 1st born's birth certificate it is refined to Humphreystown, County Wicklow, Ireland. Patrick lists his parent's names as Arthur Trainor and mother as Susan (Susannah) McGarry. Teresa lists her father as Robert Shannon and mother as Anne Reily. Patrick came to Australia around 1860 and Teresa arrived in 1862 aboard the ship the Shackamaxon. I have searched every data source I can think of and have found nothing. I would really appreciate your help. Thank you, Johanna

The civil parish for Humphreystown townland, County Wicklow is Boystown and the associated Catholic Parish was named Blackditches - a scan of the marriages for this parish shows a marriage of a 'Robt.Shannon' to to an Ann Reilly on the 1st February 1823.- see towards the end of the right hand page (NLI RC registers).

The early baptism records for this parish do not include mother's surname - but do show some very promising matches for baptisms of at least two children to this couple - John bapt. 7th May 1833, and Mary bapt. 10th June 1835 - parents for these are noted simply as Robert and Ann Shannon.

Some of the pages in the register are quite difficult to read, so might be worth a browse through to see if there might be other children... link to the register images on the NLI website

Blackditches parish is located south of Blessington lakes and around the village of Lacken. The area has changed a lot since the time of your Shannon / Reily ancestors - the Lakes were formed in the 1940s as part of the Poulaphouca Dam and hydroelectric project, at very low water levels ruins of some old cottages can be glimpsed in the lakes.

p.s. Ballygarvan townland Co. Down is in Inishargy civil parish and on the Ards Peninsula which is east of Strangford Lough, the associated Catholic parish was likely 'Ardkeen, Inishargy (Kircubbin)'

Unfortunately that interesting Ancestry/FindAGrave entry is not sourced and there's no photo of the memorial or headstone. I found a more complete transcript with a photo of a Shannon headstone at Baltyboys Graveyard on IGP (Irish Genealogy Projects), it mentions Robert and Anne with the same dates along with other details .. as follows :

The full listing is at this link, (see entry 329) and the, difficult to make out.., photo is here

The full Baltyboys transcripts and photos are here (4 parts), there are various other Shannon mentioned on other memorial transcripts.

.Humphreystown is listed as 'Humphriestown' on the 1911 census and includes one Shannon household still at the townland, widow Eliza age 65 and son Patrick age 23 - might be related... the link to the household on the new NAI system is here.
