Glacken, Glackan, Glackin, Glachan — Donegal

Raymoghy (Donegal)

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help:

My branch traces back to Neil Glachan (born c. 1816 in Co. Donegal) who married Agnes Brogan (or Brogoyne/Burgoyne) in Donegal on April 3, 1846. They moved to Scotland, settling in Erskine, Renfrewshire, and later Old Kilpatrick / Duntocher in Dunbartonshire.

I have managed to track the area they are from back to the Laggan Valley in Donegal—specifically the Civil Parish of Raymoghy (near Manorcunningham).

    • Agnes Brogan's family lived in the townland of Monclink, where her father Charles Brogan leased a cottage right next door to the Docherty family.
    • Neil Glachan’s father (also named Neil Glachan) was a laborer in the area, and the broader Glackan clan was clustered right next door in the neighboring townland of Lisclamerty, as well as a Hugh Glackan in Magherabeg in the 1830s.

If anyone else is researching the Glachans/Glackins from the Raymoghy, Manorcunningham, or Duntocher areas, I’d love to know! I have our family tree details and would be happy to compare notes.

You have obtained great information. There is an East Dovegal Facebook group which covers the  Laggan Valley area of Donegal.A posting similar above may generate responses from people with family knowledge.  If using Facebook and seek membership to this group you can then post your details:
