McGruddy family -19th century records
A warm hello from New Zealand!
In preparation for a family trip from New Zealand to Inishowen in early March, 2027, I am seeking assistance with research into my Great, great grandparents Michael and Mary McGruddy (nee Falkner).
The McGruddy family are Roman Catholic, with records showing strong connections to the Inishowen areas Lecamy, Culdaff and Gulladuff during the 1800s.
Michael and Mary were married in Culdaff, Inishowen, County Donegal, in July 1841. (attached)
I have found several records of their children - most were born in Lecamy. I have located a land record which also links Michael McGruddy to Lecamy (spelt McCready in the 1857 Griffiths Valuation record) His plot of land was just down the road from St. Columba’s Church (Ballinacrae).
My dearest wish is to pay tribute in-person to Michael and Mary at their gravesite, where it would make sense to be in the old cemetery at St Columba's Church.
It would mean so much to me and my family, if a volunteer could help find the following information:
- Where Michael and Mary McGruddy are buried, with their children who did not survive (quite possibly unmarked)
- Any burial or death records that might positively identify them
- I have attached a possible Death Record for Michael, Leckemy,1874.
- Even though there are a few Donegal death records for the name Mary McGruddy, I have not been able to say for sure that one of them is 'our Mary'.
- Any references to the family in parish records, cemetery books or local historical records
I understand that searching historical records takes time, and I am very grateful for any assistance you may be able to provide.
Best Wishes,
Maryann Cowgill (nee McGruddy)
