This is a marriage cert for a Kate (Catherine) McElwain 1910, I wonder if she is your relative. Do you have any details of her or her children?

kellyeileen20@…

Hello Eileen, Thank you so much, Bridget that died in 1929 is my Great Great grandmother. Catherine that was with her at her death is my Grandmothers Sister. All the ancestors of her family still live in and Fanad her daughter Mary Coll may still be there. My great grandmother, the daughter of Bridget died in the US from the Spanish flu. Then my grandmother Mary had to return to Ireland where she was raised by Bridget.

Hello Eileen, Catherine that is my great Aunt was named McDevitt she was the witness at the death of Bridget. I am not sure who she married but her Daughter (is or was) Mary Coll. I do not know if Mary was still living but her last known address Tombane, Cashel PO. Mary had several children that are all in their 50s or 60s now Thomas, Steven, John, Catherine and Agnes.

I also see a further two records for similar marriages, the first is Catherine Anne McDevitt  ( father Daniel McDevitt)  to Francis Gallagher 1941 Milford and the second one is Catherine McDevitt (father John McDevitt) to Thomas Carr 1935 Milford. If either of these is of interest to you , I will post them. Let me know.

kellyeileen20@…

Hello Eileen, The Catherine that married Thomas Carr is the one. She is my Great Aunt. I am looking for her children which may be gone now. Mary Carr Coll was one of them. Also her grand children Thomas, Steven, John Agnes and Catherine are my cousins. More in my age range. I would love to see them. Since my mom passed we lost touch.

Daraellis, Unfortunately we have a 100 year rule which prohib's records available which might identify living people and their parents. Likely to protect /prevent adopted people tracing their families etc ,. So I am not able to access the children's records for Thomas and Catherine after 1935, birth records are only available up to 1924 at present,  sorry, eileen.

kellyeileen20@…

Hello Eileen, Thank you. I was not aware of that rule. This Catherine McDevitt Carr is the right person. Can you tell me if you see a person which would be her daughter, Mary Carr Coll, I think she has died as well.

Hello Eileen, I will be coming over next June. I would like to gather the information and documents on my great grandmother and my great great grandmother. Is there some guidance you can give me where to go? Do I need appointments? Are there people I can pay to do this for me?

Hi Daraellis,

I have been doing a bit of digging into the McElwaine and McDevitt family that you enquired about. When you posted the photo of the McElwaine family 1911 Census, and seeing the Birth, Marriage and Death Records that Eileen was finding for you, I only realised then that I know this McElwaine family.

The records are a briiliant find (thanks Eileen) but theres one thing I should point out, some of them are for McElwaines from Ballyheirnen, which is your family, while some others are from another McElwaine family in the Townland of Ballyheerin a short distance away. I hopefully should be able to make things that bit clearer, as I have a McElwaine family Tree that I would like to share with you.

Let me know if you get this message and I will reply then and help with whatever you might need.
