Harkin

Donegal

I am searching for my great grandfathers father, Bernard or Bryan Harkin and his wife (I don't have any name).  Patrick Harkin was born Abt. 1838 and died 25 Jan 1903 and his wife Margery McLaughlin was born Abt. 1849 and died 29 April 1939.  They were married on 25 Jan 1869 and had 13 children together.  I have searched RootsIreland,, ancentry.com, family search, Ireland xo, etc., without success.  I am trying to find Bernard's date of birth, death, marriage, wife name, date of her birth and death and the names of any other children besides Patrick.

I think this is probably the family in the 1901 & 1911 censuses in Leitrim townland:

Is this Patrick’s death in June 1903 in Falmore (which is a village in Leitrim)?

Bryen Harkin is listed in Griffiths Valuation of Leitrim in 1857, but I don’t see a death for him 1864 onwards (when death registration started) and so suspect he died 1857 - 1863. Culdaff RC parish records start in 1838 (with some gaps). You could search them for the family. They are on the nli site as well as Ancestry and fmp. You may struggle to find much about Bryan/Bryen as his birth and marriage was before church records begin.

He appears to be in the tithes for Leitrim in 1828 (so born c 1800 perhaps?):

Thank you all for the information regarding Patrick and Bryan, I already had some of this information for Patrick including the census and marriage information ( yes the Patrick in the 1901 census and the marriage info are correct)

My search has been much more difficult for Bryan and his wife and I will continue to search the parish records for marriage and death records for Bryan and his wife. The 1883 death record indicates that John Harkin was present at his death and I don’t have any information regarding his wife and children other than my great grandfather Patrick. I doubt a farmer in the 1800’s would only have one child, however until I can determine if there were additional children I have to consider this questionable.

I will share with you all anything I find out about the Bryan, his wife and any other children they may have had as I continue my research, again thank you all and if you should find anything additional please share.

Patrick
