Edward Brogan

Donegal

My second great grandfather was Edward ‘Ned’ Brogan. He was born in April of 1838 in Drimcoe, Inver Parish.  He emigrated in March 1857 to the coal country of Pennsylvania. He married Bridgette Sheeran ODonnell in 1858. She was also from Inver Parish. He died in April of 1901.

My late aunt, Joan , used to write to family in Ireland but when she passed we could not locate any letters. I would love to find a connection to the Brogans. We visited the area in September 2023 but did not know at the time where to locate the town land he was born in

thanks for any help, Karyn

The spelling of the townland is Drumcoe.

RC records for the parish of Inver start in 1860/1861 so there would be no baptismal record for Ned available. The 1901 census shows a James Brogan with his wife Catherine living in Drumcoe http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Mountcharles/Drumcol/1170543/  James was likely a brother to Ned. Catherine's maiden name was Kennedy. From civil birth record (start date 1864), I located four children of this couple-- James 1866 William 1870 Catherine 1873  Anthony 1875. The 1911 census shows that Catherine was a widow and her son Edward was living with her  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Mountcharles/Drumcoe/481175/

Edward married Bridget Thomas in November 1911. See third record at the link  https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/marriage_returns/marriages_1912/09904/5599121.pdf

Edward died in 1931. See ninth record at the link  https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/deaths_returns/deaths_1931/04904/4329521.pdf

I did not locate any records for children of Edward and Bridget.

I did not find a death record for Bridget. Likely your aunt was corresponding with Bridget?

Thank you! I am updating the spelling of the town. So much gets confused over the years. I wish we knew who my aunt was corresponding with. I am going to keep digging,

Karyn
