Ann Rogan, born around 1799??

Donegal

Hello!

I'm looking for more information regarding an ancestor named Ann Rogan. She was born around 1799 to Edmund Rogan and Catherine Murphy in Ireland (I believe County Donegal). She immigrated to Canada and is recorded in the 1871 and 1891 censuses as residing in Inverness, Mégantic, Quebec. She married William Brown (about 1840) in Quebec. She later died in 1891.

Any information that you think may be relevant to this is greatly appreciated!

Do you know what religious denomination your Rogan family were ?

Some Canadian Census returns show denomination, so worth checking these...

Anything in early 1800s or 1700s is considered very early for Irish records, and County Donegal in particular is not well well covered for church records for this timeframe, so unfortunately a search will be very difficult without a more specific birthplace for Ann or her family, e.g. a town or parish.

A quick check of Catholic baptisms in Co. Donegal for the surname Rogan shows a number of early baptism all in Lifford/Clonleagh which happens to have quite early records, none with father Edmond/Edward - the next Rogan baptisms are a couple in the 1830s with the rest from the 1850s onward.

I found a likely marriage for your Ann -

Leeds Mégantic (Lac-Mégantic), Québec,Canada

Church of England

Bride : Anne Rogan

Groom : William Brown

... record text includes the following : 'William Brown of the township of Leed, widower..Anne Rogan, widow of the city of Quebec... married 2nd August 1840..'

There seems to be three witnesses mentioned., but names are unclear
