martins of fanad ead

Hi Mary

I don't have any information on the Martins but I would have some information on the Cannons. Your Mary Cannon was a sister of my great Grandmother Giley Cannon, so you would be a second cousin of my father. I have some birth certs and death certs and I also got information from my father about the Cannons. Mary Cannon's father and mother were Patrick Cannon and Ann Sweeney, they lived in Kinnalough in Fanad North. I would be very interested in any information you have on the Cannons and Martins.

regards

Pat

Hi, I think we have the right Cannons.

The Cannons Henry's children live here near Phila, but I really have not talked to them for yr lost cotact but I have some old address. Young Henry used to travel to Ireland for entertaiment for the Irish club here in Germantown.

If I hit that email thing up top il that send me t your email not sure.

My email is mayofireland@yahoo.com

Thanks for answering, I will try to locate the info and send it to you.

I could not find anything for Martin on the 1901 census just the 1911. Do you know th Carr's and the Friel's?  Maura says they are our cousin's but really never remebered  my dad talking about them. I met lots of them too.

Hi Mary
Good to hear from you.
The information I gave you earlier may not be as correct as I had thought.
I still think that we are the same Cannon family but your Mary Cannon may have been a cousin of my Great Grandmothers rather than a sister.
I had always believed that Mary was a sister of Giley's but one of my sources has Mary's father as Bryan. I think Bryan Cannon was married to Hannah McGinley and lived in Ballymichael. This may not be correct but I will look into it further . My Great Great Grandfather Patrick Cannon was a brother of Bryan's. They had at least one more brother, Thomas who lived in Toame. They also had a sister shiela who married James McElwee in Ballyhork. Henry Cannon may have been another brother, you may have more information on Henry.
I will e-mail you with more information in the next few days.
Regards
Pat

Roger: I am not sure if I ever thanked you so thanks. I did see the 1901 census however it shows my father Edward as oldest child which he always clamed was right t has birth yr 1901. On the 1911 census definetly right census has all the brothers and sisters listed shows him bor 1904 which he claims was his birth yr. So who knows if the 1901 record was him or not would have to look at the record. I am going to Milford the end of this month or early Sept. and will look it up then. Thank you.

Hello,

Very happy to find this thread.  I've been doing family tree research and would love to learn more (and verify what I have put together).

My father's family is from Fanad.  My paternal grandmother is the youngest daughter of Henry and Mary (McAteer) and  Henry Cannon.  Her name was Fanny (Frances) Cannon.  My paternal grandfather is the son of Mary (Begley) and James Cannon.  His name was Peter Cannon.  My grandparents settled in NYC and had five children, who gave them 17 grandchildren.

I believe my great great grandmother is Margaret Martin, who married Patrick Begley, and they are the parents of my great grandmother Mary Ann Begley.

I believe my great gradmother, Mary McAteer, was the daughter of James and Winifred McAteer.

I'd love to learn more about family connections and get a clearer picture of the Cannon, McAteer, Martin, Begley family trees, as well as the Friels, Boyles and McGonigleys, as they are also cousins.

Best,  Cathy Antunes      (97% Irish, don't let my Portuguese/Brazilian last name fool you!)  :)

Hi Cathy:

I was in Ireland in August and I got copy of my Grandfather Patrick Martin and Mary Cannon Wedding cert, they were married at Massmountchurch March 8th 1900. They are buried at Massmount but we could not find the grave it has no markings and we only know that because my Aunt said it when she was dying.  Anyway one of the witness at marriage was Annie Begley and the other Francis Friel. I now know the Carrs and Friels but do not recall the name Begley. Most likely she was a relative because that is who they had as witness back then.

The Cannon house which is still right next to the school they all went to. Ballymichael sch . It has been closed for yrs but on this site here Ireland reaching out you can search the school for names, I think. If not I found them on Donegal Genealogy you just type that it takes you to the parish of clondavadog then you look for Cannon Marriages, Births, School whatever you want. This is a free site.

Maura my cousin said" The Cannon who owes the house was just there in the summer, he lves in dublin  and he does research on the family. I would like to try and contact him if I can get more info on him.

You can email me mayofireland@yahoo. I have some info.

Mary.

To uodate my Martin search, I did find the first Edward born to my Grandparents Patrick Martin and Mary Cannon Martin , named Edward born 1900 died the same yr maybe 8months old. So I did locate them on the 1901 and 1911 census. What I need is info pn John Martin my Great Great Grand who he married and possible sibling.

John Martin born sometime between 1780 and 1810 father of Edward Martin born around 1825 according to wives birth Susan Sweeney of Ballinalost, Ballylar. I do not know who John married can not find any record that I can be sure of.. Edward and Susan had my Grandfather Patrick Martin some of his records show 1865 others a few yrs different so I search several yrs. Patrick married Mary Cannon of Ballymichael. I have their records of children. Edward my Father, Patrick,Denis, Barney,John,Maryannne, Hanora. Their first child Edward born 1901 died about 8 months old. then Bernard{Barney} then my Father Edward.

I need to find Johns Family who he married and his siblings would probable be some of the same first names.  any help woud be appreciated

Martins, sorry I did not add the area. Clondavaddog Parish, Ballynalost,Ballar.  They are buried in Massmount no stones so that would of been their Church, I guess.  The Martin house is still there owned by my cousin. You can look for miles there out to the Atlantic Ocean, I can almost see my Ancestors working the fileds when I visit it is like time has not stopped. Dnegal and all its people are so special to me everyone helping ay way they can and offering you a cup of tea everywhere you go. My cousin makes Magical tea cannot describle it just Magical, my cousin on Mother's side from dublin said " it's the Donegal Water".
