finding a birth registration

Killybegs Upper (Donegal)

I'm trying to find a birth registration for a Margaret Gairns. Supposedly she is my grandmothers sister. Here's what I know so far about my grandmothers family.

Father-Patrick Gairns died Oct of 1892 in Killybegs

Mother-Anne McBrearty died July 1889 in Killybegs

Children as follows: Elizabeth born 1871

                                Mary born 1873 and died 5 days later

                                Thomas born 1874

                                Mary born 1880

                                John born 1881(I don't have a birth registration for him)

                                Anna born 1885(also don't have her birth registration)

                                Catherine born 1887(my grandmother)

On Margaret's obituary from Chicago Illinois it list my grandmother as her sister. Some of the Gairns relatives list Margaret's birth as 24/Dec/1878 but there's no documentation of this.Because I can't find any information on Mary born in 1880 is it possible that she is really Margaret. I know that all the siblings immigrated to the USA but can't find anything on Mary born in 1880.

Ireland XO has been so helpful to me in the past I can only hope that you can solve this mystery.

Thank you so much for the information. This organization is the best. I try to do as much research on my own but when I hit a brick wall you seem to come through .

I now have a difficult one. I can't find anything about my grandmother(birth or siblings). She died when I was 2 and I only have a picture of me sitting on her lap. She was a very closed off person from what I understand. When I look at the US census her birth year seems to change each time. Supposedly she was 2 years older than my grandfather and considered that quite shameful.

Here is what I know, her maiden name was Mary Agnes Gleeson. Her father was Edward Gleeson and mother was Mary McGoldrick. She was adamit that it was Gleeson with two e's. On my grandfather's naturalization papers it lists her birthday as November 19,1871 and that she was from Galway. Hopefully she told the truth on the naturalization papers. If you can find anything it would be greatly appreciated.

Birth cert for a Mary Gleason born November 1869 in Glenamaddy Galway to Edmond Gleason and Mary Golden, this is the nearest I could find to your information.
