Hello,
I'm wondering if my family may be linked to either of yours. It's been years since I've looked into any genealogy, and luckily for me, a cousin has done some work on it since then -- quite a lot, actually.
Today, learned the names and places for several relatives I knew nothing about -- starting with a Mary (née McNeely) Brislin. Mary was born in Co Donegal, Parish of Killabegs, born about 1786. She was married to an Owen Brislin/Breslin (name used interchangeably it seems) who himself was born about 1784, not sure where, info says simply "possibly in Co Donegal". Owen is thought to have died in Ireland before 1860; Mary died 1871 in Ohio, US. Mary was living with a son and his family in the US for the 1860 and 1870 census in Ohio, US. Other sons' names were James and Hugh, but I'd expect there also to be an Owen, but don't have much beyond the information above, except all were Catholic.
Her son Hugh married Eliza Boyle born 5 Feb 1823, her family is from Co Donegal as well, but not sure where, don't know when those two married, even. But Eliza died in Ohio, US, 1897.
This is the first I've known of family from Killabegs Parish and so finding others with family having similar surnames in the same parish, I thought there's a decent chance of them being related so thought I'd try replying and see if any of these names were familiar to either of you.
Re-reading, I just realized that the original poster and I are likely distant cousins, as there can't be too many women named Mary McNeely Brislin born and died the same years married to Owens, can there? Ha! She is where I am stuck, as well -- or, my cousin is stuck, and now I am, too. But I'd l love to hear from you if you're still around the site!
Thank you so very much!
