James McCallick and Bridget Brazor

DonegalInver (Donegal)

James McCallick b. 1848 married Bridget Brazor b. 1850. My great grandparents emigrated about 1872 leaving one child in Ireland until 1887. This child's name was Mary McCallick and her obituary reads from the county of Inver in Donegal .  The family was Catholic. The spelling of the last name also appears on early records as McCallog/McCalloch. One record lists father's name of James as Neal McCallick. No immigration records have been located or additional information found.

I will be visiting Ireland in October 2013 and would welcome any hints on how to walk in my ancestors footsteps.

Thank you

The name is currently spelt as McCallig (pronounced as McCallyig).

There is a face book page called belong to Inver, try looking it up (although it is just for the village, the Inver parish is very big).

There was a James and Kate McCallig living KIlmacreddan Inver Parish, born about 1840 in 1901

A son of John McCallog, James McCallog b: 1848 married a Bridget Brazor b: 1847 daughter of James Brazor on 25th Feb 1868 in Inver. Both were single at time of marriage

There is a Catherine Brazier age 40 in the 1901 Census for Cloverhill, she is a widow, her widowed mother Nancy Mulhern is living with her.

A Thomas Brazer Denis McCahy, James Frazer, John Mc Collig were farming land at Cloverhill or Drumbeg Inver in Griffiths Valuation  about 1857

I feel that the family you are looking for are from Cloverhill also known as Drumbeg, Inver, the name of the Townland gives it name to Drumbeg House. The Montgomerys who came with the platiation built the house in 1700s
