Ann McCue

DonegalInishkeel (Donegal)

Hi, I'm trying to find info on my 5th (?) Great Grandmother Ann McCue. She was born in Inishkeel around 1768. She married a John A Glacken and emigrated to the US sometime in the 1780s? He was supposedly born in Mount Charlestown in 1760. She may have been married to a Huntzebarger before she married John A Glacken because there is mention of a stepdaughter named Eleanor Huntzzzebarger in Glacken's will when he died in 1853 in Lancaster Country PA, USA. Ann McCue died in 1842 and the couple are both buried in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pilot Town, Cecil County MD USA. Thank you!

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Unfortunately, church records for that area do not go back to the 18th century so we have no access to a baptismal or marriage record for your Ann.

Mount Charlestown would be Mountcharles which is a few miles west of Donegal Town.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountcharles

I checked the 1901 census for Inishkeel parish and there were about twenty McHugh households in the parish.

You may want to post Ann's story on our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection.  https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…

Have you considered DNA testing?

Thanks for your quick response.  Yes, so far I've done 23 and Me which shows that I am 48.3% British and Irish.  I'm also going to do Ancestry's test to see if I can get info that is a little more nuanced.

Denise,

Family Tree DNA reportedly has more people with Ulster roots than any other company. That obviously increases the chances of finding a match. You might want to try them or, if you have already tested, you can transfer your results to them for no fee. The North of Ireland Family History Society are running an Ulster DNA project and can offer FTDNA testing kits at a reduced price.  http://www.nifhs.org (Go to DNA project on the website).

Another site to consider is Gedmatch www.gedmatch.com ; This is a volunteer run site where you can load your raw DNA data from whatever company you tested with and see if you match people who tested with another company (and also loaded their data to Gedmatch).

Thank you Roger, I will do that once I have my DNA info!

I acknowledge this post is quite dated at this time, but I was curious as to any extra findings regarding the above questioning? On the subject of Ann, or even her husband John Glakin, born Aug. 4th, 1760 within Donegal co. as well. I as well am a great grandchild, four generations down. Serching to try and put together a history book for my little one when he gets to be in his mid twenties like his mother - and curisoity hits.. Hopefully i'll have been able to put together some stepping stones for him.

Any info or input is always, appreciated and never irrelevant.

Blessings and warmth, CBG.
