Dinsmore - Buncrana

I'm looking for information on Abraham and Eleanor Dinsmore. Their son, John Dinsmore,is my Great Grandfather. He was born 27/9/1829 and baptised 2/4/1830 according to a Roots Ireland Church ofIreland baptism record. This shows his parents as Abraham and Eleanor. A newspaper death noticeI've found says that Eleanor was born 1796 and died 1856. Another notice states that Martha, one of their daughters, married Alfred Le Grand in New York in 1865.

John Dinsmore married Jane Chesney at Holy Wood, Co Down on 18/11/1853, and subsequently moved to England where he died in 1904.

Griffiths Valuation 1857 has Abraham Dinsmore as occupant of a house and yard at 24 Townsend Street, Buncrana.

I've beenable to collect quite a lot of info on John Dinsmore from the time of his marriage onward, but am particularly interested in learning anything more about Abraham and Eleanor, and their other children.

The Church of Ireland parish records for Buncrana (Fahan Lower) start in 1817 so a trawl of those on rootsireland or in the copy held in PRONI in Belfast may reveal John’s siblings.

I noted this death notice:

December 19 1856  

At Buncrana, on the 7th inst., aged 60 years, after a lingering illness, ELEANOR, the beloved wife of MR ABRAHAM DINSMORE

I don’t see a death for Abraham in Inishowen, post 1864 suggesting perhaps that they had died or moved away before that year. (You might find them in the Church of Ireland burial records). Looking at deaths for Inishowen as a whole, the only one I noted was a George Hastings Dinsmore who died there in 1897 aged 73. There weren’t any others.  Suggesting younger generations have moved away.

You can follow the Griffiths records forward to see when Abraham vacated the property in Townsend St, using the revaluation records, which are kept in the Valuation Office in Dublin.

Thanks for this.  One interesting point is the reference to George Hastings Dinsmore as I've come across Hastings-Dinsmore before.  John Dinsmore named his 2nd son William Hastings Dinsmore.  And some time ago whilst researching John Dinsmore's children in English records I came across census records for a William Hastings Dinsmore (born somewhat earlier in 1821/1822) including his sons William and George Hastings Dinsmore and a daughter Eleanor Hastings Dinsmore.

I can't help but feel there must be a connection - I'll just have to get digging to find it!
