Henrytown, Ireland

Derry

My great grandfather X2, Daniel HENRY [May 12, 1842 - January 14, 1909 (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada] (RC)

His epitaph reads "A native of Co. Derry, Ireland."

Several obituaries refer to his birth place "Henrytown, Ireland."

I've located an occasional reference to a place referred to as "Henryville," but nothing specific named Henrytown.

According to contemporary obituaries Daniel HENRY was educated in Ireland as a civil engineer. He emigrated to Canada approximately 1868. Marriage records show his mother and father, Arthur and Catherine HENRY.

I'm unable to locate any Irish records to assist me locating his parish. I've primarily used Ancestry for my research.

Any assistance locating a parish for Henrytown is greatly appreciated.

There is a Henry's Town in the townland of Glenone, in Co Derry. That's near Portglenone, Co Antrim.

Griffiths Valuation of 1859 shows Daniel, Felix, James, Charles & Patrick Henry farming plots 24 & 25. Today those farms would be on the Glenone Rd and Ballymacombs Rd.

There was an Arthur Henry farming there in the tithe applotment records for 1833, and also an Atty Henry in the 1831 census. That might be an abbreviation for Arthur. His family consisted of 1 male, 1 female and 1 servant, all RC. No sign of any Arthur Henry in 1859 so possibly he was dead or gone by that year.
