Eugene Owen Sullivan, Warrens Lane, St Finbars Parish, Cork city, County Cork

St Finbars (Cork)

The Ancestor I am looking for is Eugene Owen Sullivan who married Catherine possibly Denny, Dineen or Horegan at St Finbars South Church on April 8, 1815. The birth dates I have for Eugene Sullivan is 1790 although that cannot be confirmed.   Catherine’s birth date is 1792 Cork, Ireland and death 6 Jan. 1870 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Catherine and Eugene had 8 children

Mary Sullivan born 1816 Migrated to Melbourne Australia

Daniel Sullivan born 1818 Migrated to Melbourne Australia

Patrick Sullivan born 1819 or 20 Death? Did not migrate

Jane Sullivan born 1821 Migrated to Melbourne Australia

William Sullivan born 1825 Migrated 1852 to Melbourne Australia

John Sullivan born 1827 Migrated 1853 to Melbourne Australia

Owen Sullivan born 1830 Did not migrate

Mary Agnes Sullivan 1836 Migrated to Melbourne Australia

I am particularly interested in finding out about Eugene Sullivan, confirming his birth and death dates, and more the two sons who did not migrate, Patrick and Owen.  Also Catherine’s maiden name anything about ancestors of Eugene and Catherine.

I will be in Cork City April 9-12 2025 and would appreciate any advice as to where I should go to research further.  Looking forward to hearing back any advice whatsoever.

Jill,

To answer one of your questions, the marriage record under the church records tab on irishgenealogy.ie shows they were married on 5 April 1815. The names are Owen Sullivan and Catharine Dineen. The witnesses were Jno (John) Murphy and Cath (Catharine) Dineen (not the wife). The address is Warren's Lane - not sure if that is his address or hers even though the transcription shows it is her address. Also, just to confirm Catharine's surname, Patrick's baptism record of 5 Dec 1819 has Owen Sullivan & Catharine Dineen as his parents. The sponsors were Denis Sullivan & Eliza Sullivan.

The civil death records do not begin until 1871, so you might not find the death record you are seeking.

Carolyn

Dear Carolyn,

Thank you so much for the information. Good to get more accurate information that helps with the search. I am in Ireland now, just starting my adventure but this info will be most helpful when I get to Cork and Dublin’s national records. Again thank you for taking the time to assist.

regards
