I am researching the ancestors and descendants of John Joseph Burgess and Abigail Bride of Aghada. I wish to know more about where John Burgess came from and his parents and about Abigail Bride's parents.

Further to Roger's message I took a stab and found a marriage record of John Burgess and Abigail Bride in Cork on www.rootsireland.ie/ The year is 1858 & the parish Aghada
You will need to purchase credit but it SHOULD give you the parents' names
There is also a birth/baptism record of John Burgess 1816 Cork but the parish is not Aghada & 1 for Abigail Bride 1839 but the parish is not Aghada
rootsireland charges to view the full record but have 40% off at the moment.
The Tithe Applotments are free online & there are 3 Burgesses in Cork 1824, 1828 & 1834
There are also 13 Brides listed so if you get the parents' names from the marriage record you might get where they were from from the Tithes.

I appreciate your time and assistance.
John Joseph Burgess was said to be from Templemore, Tipperary County and was born around 1840.
He had a sister Elizabeth Burgess who never married and who was a National School Teacher at Ballycahill National School near Thurles in Tipperary.
I can find no records of their births or parents. It is a brick wall at this stage.
Abigail Burgess nee Bride was born on born 9 October 1839 and her parents were Richard Bride and Hannah Kanty or Canty. She had a sister Ellen who married a John Sweeney.
John and Abigail Burgess owned and ran the Imperial Hotel in Lower Aghada up until 1894 having taken over from Abigail's father Richard Bride on their marriage.
That was the correct marriage Col - thank you. And yes, Cathy, it is the family, thank you. Abigail sometimes went by Albinia and Abina it seems.
I'm hoping to find descendants of John and Abigail who are also researching the tree.
I have no information on Hannah Kanty or Canty. The Daly website mentions Hannah Fitzgerald instead of Hannah Kanty/Canty and I can find no evidence for the name Fitzgerald.
Thank you for all your assistance - I'll try following up on Tithes for Richard Bride. All I can find are the Richard Bride who married Catherine Murphy in Aghada on 25th January 1840 ; and Richard Bride who married Bridget Murphy on 3 June 1838 in Cobh. I cannot find the marriage of Richard Bride to Hannah Canty/Kanty.
