Seeking FEEN/FINN, DEASY, MOLONEY

CorkRoss (Cork)

Seeking contacts/information/ancestry of Daniel Finn b. abt. 1802 & Mary Moloney, their son Patrick FEEN/FINN b. 1826 Barley Hill, Rosscarbery, Cork, IRE.  Died 1892 at Benduff Quarry, Rosscarbery, IRE.  Married to Mary Deasy b. abt 1829 d. ?  Children of Patrick FEEN/FINN & Mary Deasy:  Elizabeth, Catherine, John, Mary, Patrick, Ellen, Bridget, Julia, James, Jeremiah, Johanna.  Many of these children came to America.  Johanna is my great grandmother who settled in Massachusetts, USA.

Daniel Finn & Mary Moloney had another son James who also died in the quarry accident of 1892.  I'm sure there must have been other children but I am not aware of them, or Daniel & Mary's ancestry.

Would very much love to hear from someone who might know of or have a connection with this family.

Very much appreciated and most gratefull, I remain,

Sincerely,

Diane

I looked at the 1901 census for Finns in the Roscarbery area. There were only a few. I'm wondering if this record pertains to Mary Deasy Finn? I did not locate her in the 1911 census so she likely died. I did locate a death index record for a Mary Finn who died in 1903 in the Clonakilty registration district which includes Ross civil parish. You can write to the GRO www.groireland.ie for a copy of the record. Fill out their form and provide the quarter/year of death, registration district (Clonakilty) and the volume and page number ( 5 and 47). It will cost around 4 euros.

Name: Mary Finn
Event Type: Death
Event Date: Jan - Mar 1903
Event Place: Clonakilty, Ireland
Registration Quarter and Year: Apr - Jun 1903
Registration District: Clonakilty
Age: 76
Birth Year (Estimated): 1827
Mother's Maiden Name:
Volume Number: 5
Page Number: 47

Thank you Roger, I am not sure but thought she died around 1903 because the story told was when Johanna's mother died (her father already dead) that she came to America as she was pretty much alone at the time.  A few of her siblings already in America.  I'm pretty sure she arrived in 1903 but it also could have been between 1901-1903.  In any case I think I will order the record you have narrowed down for me in hopes that it is my Mary.

I thank you so much Roger for your reply, for your time and this record you have found for me.  It is truly appreciated and very meaningful to me.

Do you live in Ireland?  If not is there anything I can help you with in regards to searches you may have in the USA etc.  I have "World" membership on Ancestry.com and easy access to the Mormon Library.

Most sincerely,

Diane

Roger, thank you for the link to the National Archives:  since I received your reply I've been trying to find Johanna in the Census with her mother, with no luck.  I did find a James (sibling) around the same age with a widowed mother around that age.  Just can't be sure.  Johanna could be living with relatives etc.

I'm so glad I happened upon this site (message board).  I've received two hits within a few hours.  Things are looking up.

Thank you again.    Diane

I am researching the Deasy family.  My immigrants came from Kinsale, Co. Cork but it seems clear that they go back to Clonakilty.  We have a Mary Deasy b. 1821 but she is a Kinsale girl.  Happy to collaborate and share information when and how I can.
