Seeking McCarty / Allen Origins in County Cork

I’m researching my 5th-great-grandparents George McCarty and Sybil Allen, believed to be from County Cork, Ireland, who immigrated to South Carolina before 1772, where their son Edward McCarty was born in Edgefield. I’d like to find their Irish parish of origin, or any record of their marriage before emigration (possibly c. 1770–1771).

I’m especially interested in any McCarty (MacCárthaigh) or Allen families known to have emigrated from Cork to the Carolinas in the mid-1700s.

Happy to exchange notes or collaborate!

Jeneecw,

Your Ancestry tree indicates that Sybil was born in South Carolina, not County Cork. Not sure what religion they were, but regardless, there are almost no marriage records that far back from Cork. There is only one RC parish and one COI parish that go back before 1770.

Carolyn

I wonder if i might be able to find any birth or baptism récords for George McCarty so that i could trace his Irish origins before settling in SC. I didn't realize that Sybil was born in SC. My initial searches showed that both the Allen family and McCarty's may have been a part of the Scotch/Irish families that received land grants (i am awaiting search results from SC Archives).

Jeneecw,

No, there are no parish baptism records from Cork back that far...twenty or more years before marriage date. The Ancestry attachment that you posted in your question shows that Sybil was born in SC...I thought that you created that tree.

Regards,

Carolyn
