HI Again Roger,
Thank you for your response.
I did check out Mary Delahunty from Bohola about 2 years ago. She was aboard the Celtic and arrived in NY Aug 1, 1902. I ordered birth records from Bohola for that Mary. I also spoke to a great-niece of Mary Delahunty. I am certain she is not my grandmother.
Last month I reexamined the Ellis Island records and I checked out the Passenger List and the original manifest again. There are two Mary Ds listed - one is the Mary Delahunty from Bohola who was 20 years old when she arrived in NY. The other is Mary Dela.... (that is all the info on the record because the page is torn) The second Mary was 17 when she arrived in NY. Accd to the records, she came from Bondea.
I never could locate a town in Ireland called Bondea. But there is a Brulea and if I am correct, that is the town name the transcriber was writing not Bondea.
The second Mary would be the age my grandmother was in 1902 - 17 years old. I have my grandmother's marriage license. She was married in New York City. She gave Jan 20, 1884 as her date of birth. That would make her 17 or so in 1902. She also claimed Ireland as her place of birth.
Another reason I feel confident this second Mary could be my grandmother is the US census records. In 1920, 1930, 1940, Mary's years in the US matched with her arriving about 1902.
My problem now is how to proceed with the new information.
A millions thanks for your reponse and interest.
Pamela
